It happens to me and millions of others around the world. If you check Slack’s Twitter bio, it says that they are on a mission to make your working life simpler, more enjoyable and more productive.

It is difficult to disagree with this. To say that I’m on Slack 24/7 would be a bit exaggerating, but it’s definitely one of the apps I open the most often, whether it’s a desktop app or its mobile version. I have become used to it that I cannot imagine turning my team into a different tool. Obviously, we use it mainly for work, but hey, when it comes to slack it’s too much.

Ever strayed outside your company’s slack? If not, you started high time! There are many dull communities you can connect with. Whether you are a marketer, a developer, or a designer, this is all for you!

I am a member of various teams, and I would love to share some tips on how to join them, which communities are they that I value the most, and what are the benefits of being a member of those communities.

How can I find sluggish communities?

It’s not like you can just go to Slack’s homepage, open a list of groups and join as many numbers as you want. I did a little research to find the ones I consider valuable after some time, so I covered you with this one.

Some directories or articles I would recommend to search for the communities you want to include:

Slofile, which allows filtering by language and region, in addition to filtering by categories

All around 500 different sluggish communities are counted for you to choose from. These are just a few sources that I save in my browser’s tab, but I think you’ll get more if you start digging by yourself.

Once you have made your choice and you have a list of Slack teams that you would like to become a member of, it is time for you to join. They all have sign-up forms that you actually have to access and use inside the respective communities before filling out and waiting for verification.

Based on personal experience, I don’t think you should have a problem with being accepted. Keep in mind that some of them may require an entry fee of $ 20 as a fee which is $ 150 for a month.

what’s in it for you?

Before I became a member of different communities, I was thinking, if many of these other communities are already out then what is the point of joining any of them? Countless Facebook groups, as well as other groups were already present on websites for marketers.

Nevertheless, the Slack community seemed intriguing because of its simplicity, urgency, and how many people from different backgrounds are active there all the time. Also, you do not receive all the spam that comes in the majority of Facebook groups.

It’s not all roses with Slack communities as I joined some of these that seemed quite dead from the start, but there are definitely some that I can suggest are buzzing outside by day. Online Genius is definitely one of the best ones, and I just can’t keep up with everything that’s happening there! Just a look at that sidebar:

Now, imagine that there are some similar ones that you can browse. As long as you have time for that, there is a lot to learn as well as a lot of networking opportunities.

I am a member of most marketing related subredits, and there are specific channels that are of interest to you. Just have a look at the screenshot above. Be it content marketing, conversion rate optimization, marketing automation, PPC or SEO, it’s all for you, thousands of people are ready to offer advice and ask for it too.

Still, if there are many other groups that can be easy to access, why bother?

You can probably think by now, okay, awesome, I can learn from so many people and share some of my advice now too, but if I could get some exposure for my own business, blog, YouTube It won’t be good either. Channel, whatever? Now it becomes interesting from here only.

Obviously, you don’t just go to the default channels and start promoting your business. This is the surest way to get out of a community. However, as far as I remember, the Slack team you are going to join will have #shamelessplug or #humblebrag channels which are essentially for promotional purposes. This is where you want to be with your latest blog post, vlog, or a redesigned website.
