When the Blink XT Wireless Security Camera was first introduced, we praised it for its low cost, ease of use and free cloud storage. Amazon has since taken over the company, which came with the successor: Blink XT2.

This camera is now running indoors and out for less than $ 100, with a full 1080p resolution and twice the battery life of its predecessor.

Although it lacks many features found in other security cameras, the Blink XT2 is the best home security camera overseas for under $ 100.

Unlike most security cameras that feature a circular design, the XT2 is square, with a sharp edge. The ship’s size is large, with a size of 2.4 x 2.5 x 1.5 inches and should be obscured in most cases wherever you decide to mount.

The blink sync unit on the XT2, required to connect the camera to a Wi-Fi network, is almost the same size and size.

The bottom and surface of the XT2 also mean that you can easily put it on the shelf. The camera includes fixing and a set of screws, so you can attach the camera to the side of your home.

However there is no way to lock the XT2 against theft; It is best installed at the highest level

The XT2 is rated for outdoor use and has an IP65 rating which means it should stand in front of rain, hail and snow storms.

I took my camera out of my house in several severe thunderstorms without any problems.

Set up

Unlike the Arlo security camera, the Blink X does not connect directly to your home Wi-Fi. Instead, it connects to the blink sync unit via a wireless link, which connects to your Wi-Fi network.

That way, the Blink XT camera can run on battery power; The sync unit needs to be plugged into an electrical outlet.

Blink says that the XT2, powered with two AA batteries, can last up to two years without replacement batteries.

This assumption assumes that you are using the camera for approximately 900 minutes of video events, including live view, motion activated recording and two-way conversation.

The more video the camera records, the more you use two-way chat and live video, the less the camera will play.

Fortunately, the Blink XT2 Series comes with both camera and sync units. Additional cameras cost $ 89 each.

The setup takes about 20 minutes. First you need to connect the sync unit to your Wi-Fi unit and then connect the camera to the sync unit. Flash makes it easy.

From within the Blink app (Android and iOS), you can scan the QR code behind each account to link it to your account.

The biggest decision you have to make is to attach the camera, which you can make with the supplied mounting bracket and two screws.

Sound and video quality

The 1080p XT2 camera has a 110 view field of view similar to the YJ Cam but is narrower than 145 ° FOV for Samsung Smartthings and 130 than for the Arlo Q.

However, none of these cameras were designed to be used outside, and when I installed the XT2 on the side of my house it was visually wide enough that I could see most of the rear.

Although the XT2 cameras are not nearly as fragile as the Arlo cameras, they were good enough quality that I could set up distinctive faces and details in day and night videos.

The Labrador Yellow Fur looks noisy, the color of the green shirt and the red puppy bowl were subtle.

The Blink app has a good lapse, but it’s not a whole lot of features, including customizable activity fields, motion sensitivity, and video quality.

The app also allows you to set the length (15 to 60 seconds) of each recording, as well as how long the camera’s motion sensor should wait before it is reactivated.

Fields of activity are assigned by checking the boxes on the grid. The base grid is 5 x 5, while the advanced setting divides each square into a 4 x 3 grid, giving you a total of 300 squares. It’s very easy to set up.

The least intuitive is the camera scheduling feature. You can set the XT2 to the arm and disarm several times a day, and you can set a custom schedule for each day.

But the way to add or change these settings is confusing, because it requires you to switch back and forth between two screens, one showing the weekly day clock below and the other showing a grid for the whole week.

When you want to equip the camera, it will be easier to drag your finger over time.

The camera also has a built-in thermometer, so the device can alert you if the temperature drops or exits. You can also set dates to enable motion detection.
